My kids are huge Paw Patrol fans. My son, who is now 9, became obsessed with the show when he was about 2. Now, his 5-year-old sister is the biggest Paw Patrol fan in our family, but he still enjoys watching the TV show with her.
Back in 2021, when the original Paw Patrol movie was released exclusively on Paramount+, we got Paramount+ just so we could see it, and I ended up buying it on DVD. Jump to 2023, and when my kids started seeing ads and billboards for “Paw Patrol the Mighty Movie,” they were quick to tell me, “There’s a new Paw Patrol movie! Can we see it?”
How We Saw “Paw Patrol the Mighty Movie” 5 Days Early
We’re lucky to live in Los Angeles where there are sometimes unique opportunities to see movies before they hit theaters, and on Sunday September 24, 2023, 5 days before “Paw Patrol the Mighty Movie” hits theaters, we were lucky enough to attend an early screening of the movie as a family.
This advanced screening of “Paw Patrol the Mighty Movie” was VERY unique. In fact, I don’t know that we will ever see a movie in the same way again. The screening was held outside in the middle of the day at the Autry Museum of Western Heritage, and the goal of the screening was for as many people as possible to bring their dogs. Paramount Pictures was making an official attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the number of dogs watching a movie at the same time.
We don’t have a dog, but we were still able to attend. In fact, a LOT of people who went to the screening didn’t have dogs; however, families with dogs got priority seating.
If you would like to know more about this unique event, see some of the adorable dogs (including one dressed like Chase!), and find out if Paramount succeeded in setting a new world record, watch the video below. I also include our reaction to the movie immediately after we finished watching it and show some of the freebies that were available at the event.
Would We Recommend “Paw Patrol the Mighty Movie”?
If you watched the video above, you know that my daughter wants to watch the new Paw Patrol movie “a million times.” She loved Skye, who is the heroine of the movie.
If you didn’t watch the video above, that probably means that you want to cut right to finding out if “Paw Patrol the Mighty Movie” is worth seeing. If your kids are huge Paw Patrol fans like mine, the answer is 100% yes. Go see the new movie.
Is it entirely necessary to see this new movie in theaters? Honestly, we saw it for free, and we probably won’t see it again until it hits Paramount+. We’ll probably also buy it on DVD or blu-ray when it comes out. However, this could be a great first in-theater movie experience for lots of little kids.
As a parent, I love that the Paw Patrol movies (both of them) are entertaining for both kids and adults. Sure, the kids are going to get into it more, but there are jokes for the parents (like apologizing for the new toys that will be released due to the new movie).
In a world where we have to be careful what our kids watch, “Paw Patrol the Mighty Movie” is a fun ride for kids and their parents. It includes a lot of action, some fun music, and does a good job pulling at the heartstrings
What You Need to Know about the 1st Paw Patrol Movie BEFORE Seeing the New Movie
It’s not entirely necessary to see the first Paw Patrol movie before seeing “Paw Patrol the Mighty Movie,” but there are a few things that it will help to know. In the first Paw Patrol movie, we meet Liberty, a resident of Adventure City, where the Paw Patrol sets up a new headquarters, one even more impressive than the one in Adventure Bay. The Paw Patrol saves Adventure City from Mayor Humdinger, who ends up in jail. By the end of the movie, Liberty is an official member of the Paw Patrol.
In the second movie, we are still in Adventure City, but this time there’s a mad scientist who is the main villain that the Paw Patrol has to defeat. A meteor crash lands in Adventure City, and all of the members of the Paw Patrol get special powers that they use to save the city and each other.
In the first Paw Patrol movie, we see Chase’s origin story, how Ryder saves him when he was a tiny pup who was all alone on the streets of Adventure City. The first movie is also largely about Chase and how he has to learn not to believe in himself and not to be afraid of the big city.
Spoiler Alert!
Want to know more? Stop reading now if you don’t want to know any spoilers. Honestly, I’m glad I didn’t know much about the movie’s plot before watching it, but I know some people like spoilers. In the video below, I show our reaction to watching “Paw Patrol the Mighty Movie” immediately after watching it (like, we’re literally talking while the credits are playing), and then I include a couple spoilers.
Want to know more spoilers? Here’s a rundown of the super powers that each of the pups gets. Skye is able to fly. Chase is super fast. Picture Dash from “The Incredibles.” Rocky is like a magnet. Rubble can turn into a wrecking ball. Zuma shoots water out of his paws, thankfully, because Marshall can shoot fire balls from his paws. One of my favorite lines in the movie is when Liberty says, “Great. Now the clumsy pup shoots fire from his paws.” LOL
Liberty is the hold out. She doesn’t know what her super power is until the very end of the movie. If you watched the video above, you already know what her super power is. My daughter described it as “a slinky dog,” but I think a better description is picturing Mrs. Incredible. She can stretch very, very far, and at the end of the movie, she discovers this super power when she saves Chase’s life.
My favorite part of the entire movie may have been when we see Skye’s origin story, how she meets Ryder. She is adorable as a tiny puppy! She shares that she “was the runt of the litter.” Nobody came to adopt her at the farm where she was born. Eventually, she saw Ryder and chased after his snowmobile through snow almost taller than she was. Thankfully, Ryder comes back for her, and as he tells Skye, she is the reason he “started saying ‘No pup is too small.'”
The movie is mainly about Skye, and in the end, she is the one who saves Adventure City, and Liberty saves Chase’s life. As my son put it after watching the movie the “girls save the day.”
