The exterior sign of Porto's bakery and cafe

Porto’s is a cuban bakery and cafe that is known for their delicious cakes, pastries, beverages and sandwiches. There are several locations throughout southern California including one just minutes from Universal Studios Hollywood, and another location just minutes from Knott’s Berry Farm. What’s really exciting is that the newest location is going to be at Disneyland’s Downtown Disney District.

While I don’t know if the Porto’s in Downtown Disney will carry all of the items that their other locations carry (such as whole cakes and whole loaves of bread), I’m sure many of the customer favorites that are sold at all of their other locations will be available.

Some of my favorite menu options at Porto’s include a sandwich called the Cubano which includes slow-roasted pork, sweet roasted ham, Swiss cheese, pickles, and Cuban dressing. My husband’s favorite sandwich is the Medianoche. These sandwiches are exactly the same except for the bread. The Cubano is on cuban bread, and the Medianoche is on sweet bread.

Food from Porto's packaged in take out containers - cheese rolls, potato balls, plantain chips and more

For sides, we love the plantain chips, which are sweet, salty and crunchy. We also love the potato balls. They’re like a crispy ball of mashed potatoes filled with awesomeness. The regular potato balls have a beef mixture inside. The cheese and spicy peppers potato balls are filled with 5 kinds of cheese, 3 kinds of peppers and sauteed onions. There are also seasonal potato balls, like the turkey and gravy ones sold during the holiday season.

For sweet treats, we almost always get cheese rolls. They’re a flaky, sweet pastry filled with a cream cheese mixture and topped with sugar. I could live on the cheese rolls.

We often order whole cakes for birthday parties and celebrations. The mango mousse cake is one of our favorites. The cuban cake is another favorite. We actually had porto’s cater our wedding and had them make our wedding cake, a triple decker cuban cake. If you want to try the cakes but don’t want a whole cake, they also sell many of their cakes by the slice.

Besides the food, Porto’s also has a selection of coffee beverages and smoothies. My kids love the mango smoothie.
