Earlier today, Disneyland made an announcement that made some fans very happy and other fans pretty grumpy. Seven dwarves references aside, the response to Disneyland’s news is mixed for several good reasons.

The news is that Magic Keys are resuming sales tomorrow, April 11, 2023, approximately around 9am Pacific time. Magic Keys are the current version of the annual pass program at the Disneyland Resort. There are for different levels of Magic Keys that will go on sale tomorrow, and most likely all will sell out pretty quickly.

Disneyland has not released information about how many of each key type it offers for sale, but there does seem to be a cap on how many Magic Keys they sell at a time. Often, new Magic Keys aren’t offered for sale and are only available for renewal. That’s why it can exciting for Disney fans who missed the opportunity to buy a Magic Key in the past when a Magic Key is available for sale again. However, people who think the parks are already overcrowded and Magic Key holders who have trouble making reservations to the parks aren’t too happy when Disney offers the opportunity for more people to join the annual pass program.

When the Disneyland Magic Key Instagram account announced the news that keys were going on sale again, more than 16,000 followers liked the post in just a few hours time; however, many people who commented on the post were unhappy.

One comment reads, “We have been waiting for months for you put Magic Keys back on sale! Thank you!!! My mom is in stage 5 kidney failure. The doctor said that this year is probably her last year of being able to be active. All she wants is to spend as many days at Disneyland as possible. Now with Magic Keys we can do that.”

Another Disney fan wrote, “How exciting!!!”

However, many, many of the comments were begging Disney to stop selling Magic Keys. One person wrote, “the already overburdened system is getting even messier.”

Another comment reads, “Yeah, naw I think I’m done. Letting my pass expire in August. Last time I was at the parks, I had such a horrible time.”

And many of the comments had to do with the difficulty current Magic Key holders often face when trying to make park reservations, which are required to visit the parks regardless of whether or not the Magic Key has a blackout date. For example, one person wrote, “Seriously no stop selling them if you aren’t going to have open availability for inspire key holders. It’s ridiculous that older keys have open availability this week while I don’t.”

Another Magic Key holder shared, “Take away the reservations. That would be better. Why keep selling more passes just to restrict more people of not going in. Covid is over . No more reservations!!!!”

It is true that sometimes Magic Key holders are unable to make reservations at Disneyland on days when there’s still capacity for regular park ticket holders. Fair? Maybe not, but it is what it is.
